Alan Macallister – Web Design, SEO & Conversion Optimisation

Alan Macallister – Web Design, SEO & Conversion Optimisation

Alan (or Mac) is the prinicpal web designer at Tartan.

After a degree in that less well known combination of Design, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Maths, and Psychology, Alan was at a loss with what to do.

While waiting for the internet to be invented he began designing and selling kitchens before moving into residential property development, his achievements including building a house single handedly.

The instant that the web was born, Alan got stuck straight into combining his love of direct sales with his by now latent geeky computer skills and quickly moved into the highly competitive areas of On-line Dating, Internet Marketing and Affiliate Marketing.

Early on, Alan noticed there was a new field opening up within the commercial web – something that bizarrely combined Design, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Maths and Psychology.

Finally there was a perfect match for Alan’s degree – Conversion Rate Optimisation.

Absolute pure luck – but, as they say the rest is history.

His skillsets include:

  • Conversion Optimisation
  • Web Copywriting
  • Search Engine Optimisation
  • Reputation Management

He likes:

  • Strong coffee
  • Clients who pay early
  • Giselle from Enchanted
  • Building things

Alison Macdonald – SEO and Development

Alison Macdonald – SEO and Development

Alison is Tartan’s SEO expert and head of chutzpah

Alison proudly describes herself as unemployable, and thanks to her being raised by a pack of feral Glaswegian wolves, has largely fended for herself since graduating.

Although trained in design, Alison enjoys working in direct selling and entered on-line marketing in 2005. As well as providing tailored SEO services, Alison has been the Online Reputation Management consultant for several big-hitters in the Internet Marketing / Business Opportunity sector.

Alison and Alan have worked together on several successful commercial web projects prior to setting up Tartan Web Design.

Despite this past history, Alan and Alison remain on good speaking terms and thanks to the web, living 2500km away on a Spanish island doesn’t hinder her work.

She has a tendency to write nonsense when faced with a blank About Me page

Her skillsets include:

  • Link building
  • Reputation Management
  • Web design
  • Product development

She likes:

  • Rainbows on roses
  • Whiskers on kittens

Emma Graveson – Office Manager

Emma Graveson – Office Manager

Emma manages all Tartan operations and oversees our larger projects.

With over 20 years managerial experience, Emma runs a tight ship here, controlling our day to day freedom, workload, accepting jobs and negotiating service contracts.

Her whole career has been in design-led industries and thanks to this Emma’s opinion on our designs is always 100% correct and despite our many protestations about the impossibility of changes “so late in a project”, we secretly make the changes and secretly agree with her.

When Emma’s not making our life just that bit funner, she writes excellent sales copy.

Being the only person in the office not to write her own About Me page, Emma is also immensely trusting – such is her command only a fool would write something disparaging.

Emma went to Lucerne but keeps it really really quiet.

Her skillsets include:

  • Web copywriting
  • Content creation
  • Social strategy
  • Quality control

She likes:

  • Being right about everything
  • Cool drinks on hot beaches
  • Eric from True Blood
  • Mike from Breaking Bad

Julie Hamilton – Project Management, Copywriting and SEO

Julie Hamilton – Project Management, Copywriting and SEO

Julie is Tartan’s resident genius

When she’s not wrangling words and ranking websites she’s studying for a PhD in something really complicated to do with genetics.

Before coming to Tartan, Julie has managed a number of large web projects for blue-chip clients in science and education, as well as providing graphic and web design services in the voluntary sector.

An unusual combination of genetic research, web design, SEO and horse medical care as a career choice is an indicator of just how much Julie can genuinely lend her hand to anything, in any niche on any subject – something that proves very useful when it comes to SEO content creation, particularly in tough niches.

Her skillsets include:

  • Web Project Management
  • Web Copywriting
  • Search Engine Optimisation

Not many SEO practitioners can say they’re also fighting drug resistant worms in horses. Julie can.
